The Venice Marco Polo airport It is located 8 km north of the city of Venice. It has a main terminal with three levels:
- Level 0 is the arrivals area.
- Level 1 is the departure area and check-in counters. The departure gate area is separated between Schengen and non-Schengen flights.
- Level 2 houses restaurants and shops.
The city is built on an archipelago of 118 small islands (if we include the islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello), almost all of them linked together by 455 bridges and includes six districts or municipalità on the mainland (terraferma veneziana) where the majority live of the population; about 60 thousand inhabitants in the insular center and 200 thousand on the mainland.
You reach the center of Venice via the Liberty Bridge, which from the neighbouring town of Mestre accesses the Piazzale Roma. There is no road traffic inside the city, and with the exception of navigation through the canals that separate the islands, it is a completely pedestrian city. Public transport is provided by ferry boats known as vaporettos. They are operated by the municipal company ACTV.3
Its canals make up a large network of streets that start from the Grand Canal, a great road through which a multitude of boats, large and small, pass, the best known of which are the so-called gondolas.
