Transfers AVE Atocha station

Atocha-Cercanías station arose from the complete remodeling of the Atocha station, built between 1985 and 1992.

In operation, the original station Madrid-Atocha It was replaced in its functions by two new stations: Madrid-Puerta de Atocha, intended to receive high-speed lines and trains that end at the station; and Atocha-Cercanías, intended for through trains heading towards the Tunnels of Laughter. This station replaces the primitive half-buried halt that was located next to the old station and that served as the southern end of the tunnel. This reform was also used to reorganize the entire design of the railway network around Madrid, as well as improving the Cercanías network.

In all this set of actions we must include various actions more or less contemporaneous in time, such as Railway Green Corridor that will allow you to unite Prince Pius with Atocha-Cercanías as well as the new railway tunnel from Aluche to Atocha-Cercanías by Embajadores to integrate the Cercanías service to Alcorcon and Mostoles with the rest of the core. Thus Atocha-Cercanías becomes the main node of the core of Cercanías Madrid, being a transit station for all the lines of the network (except C-9). In the future, work will be done on expanding the station, with the inclusion of two new tracks and a platform.
