The historic heart of the city of Concarneau, is one of the medieval jewels (like Locronan) of the Finistère, near Quimper, the city of the birth of the kouign-aman. The walls were built in the 14th century to ward off English attacks and protect the governor's house.

From the city you can see the walls of the small Medieval city, to get there you must walk across a bridge that connects the city with this wonderful medieval work.

This fortification was born because of a war in 1300 during the Middle Ages. It underwent numerous restructuring over several centuries until its recognition as a Historical Heritage and its classification in Monuments at the beginning of the 19th century.

The watchtower dominates the entrance to the fortified city, emblem of Concarneau.

Walking around the city is the least you can do to get an idea of a construction from another era. The best thing to do after visiting the city is to go around the entire walled area to have a different view, and thus be able to see the port and the entire city of Concarneau.

Inside the fortified city, we counted 9 towers and three gates that allowed us to enter and exit it: La Puerta del Vino, La Puerta del Paso and La Puerta de los Ladrones.

During 400 years, the wall has undergone improvements, the architect and Marquis Vauban, strengthened the wall with the installation of cannons on the towers that are facing the sea.
